In an effort to put geological time into geographic perspective, paleomaps will be
provided for those periods within the scope of this website. Additional large scale maps will be
added when deemed applicable.
The accompanying images have been provided with the permission of the PALEOMAP Project.

CRETACEOUS
Pangea continues to break-up as the Atlantic widens and the sea level rises. Dinosaurs continue
to dominate the continents and sharks will soon be preying on mosasaurs. |
|
MIDDLE EOCENE
The modern continents now drift independently and a period of collisions begins. Sea levels
are lower, the Tethys is disappearing. |
|
MIDDLE MIOCENE
Mountain building continues as the modern map takes shape. Sea levels continue to be
lower than today and a new predator appears in the worlds oceans - C. megalodon. |
