One of the more scarce species found in the Bakersfield area, Parotodus benedeni, is perhaps the most desirable. These teeth may reach over 3 inches in slant height and are very robust. Most teeth have a deep U-shaped root and the crown curves strongly to one side. Perhaps only 50-100 specimens have ever been collected from the area.
